FEEL IT, LOVE IT

Kingsley, a 20-year old boy lived with his parents after obtaining a diploma from the Polytechnic of Ibadan. He was a member of his church choir and played the drums and keyboard. He also played the keyboard and drums in his parent’s church, whenever they celebrated their church harvests.

Kingsley always felt attracted to girls who were at most  5 years younger than he was, but he discovered that such feelings usually disappeared after the girl accepted to be his girlfriend or fell in love with him and before long he would lose interest in her.
There were several girls in his church who were deeply attracted to him, but he was always put off  whenever they approached him and expressed their feelings. He preferred being the one to make the first move. ‎

In the course of time, it happened that a new member joined his church choir. Her name was Janet.
Now, Janet had just finished from secondary school eighteen months ago and within that time, she had enrolled in a catering school and begun learning how to make cakes, small chops, cocktails and snacks. She was only 17 years old, but she didn’t look it because she was taller than most girls her age.
She was an avid admirer of Kingsley and was unrelentingly attracted to him but she had no musical orientation nor prior experience from singing in a church choir.  During rehearsals, she would get the notes of the song being rehearsed all mixed up and when she eventually did get it right her voice sounded flat. Kingsley had no idea that he was the reason she joined the choir.
He tried as much as possible to avoid the advances of young, beautiful ladies in his church but Janet was persistent. She'd rush to him after rehearsals, asking him to teach her how to sing. He tried to with little success because Janet didn't have the passion and dedication to become a better singer, all she wanted was to be noticed by Kingsley and for him to give her his attention. But after a while, her motivation for joining the choir began to fizzle out because she wasn't getting the kind of constant attention she craved from Kingsley. Getting him to notice her was becoming more difficult and as a result the initial excitement she felt from being in the choir with him had begun to fade. She felt no inspiration and concentrating during  rehearsals and choir ministrations had become an unbearable chore .
Since he didn’t notice her talk less of showing any interest in her, she stopped attending rehearsals and choir meetings and returned to sitting in the congregation. When the choir leader asked why she was absent from the choir, she  made up all sorts of excuses but refrained from telling him the truth.
How could she tell him that singing for God had lost it's appeal because her love-interest wasn't paying enough attention to her?

One day while going through the list of contacts on her phone, she got the idea to give him a call.
‎It was a Thursday morning when she decided to call and greet him, he answered and greeted her cordially. He was surprised she called him and was puzzled at the way she kept stuttering and repeating her words.
Janet couldn’t say what was on her mind, hearing Kingsley's voice had made her extremely nervous. Immediately she ended the call Kingsley began to ask himself if there was more to her call.

As he began to ponder on the reason why Janet would call him, he remembered the way their eyes would meet in church, the way she would stare at him even when he wasn't looking in her direction but it had never occurred to him that she might have had a crush on him. He wondered if all the while, she had fallen in love with him but didn't know how to communicate her feelings to him. He remembered that there was always something about the way her eyes held him whenever they greeted in church.
So he developed a plan in order to find out for himself how accurate his thoughts were. He would call her that night when it would be quiet and she would be alone and able to talk freely.

To be continued............
